Shoulder Procedures

Specialist Shoulder Care
Professor Cathal Moran is one of Ireland’s leading shoulder specilalist surgeons providing care for shoulder pain and injuries.
Many patients and athletes can be returned to a high level of performance, work and play without shoulder surgery. Occasionally advanced reconstruction is required, but minimally invasive keyhole surgery options are used where possible, with an emphasis on the most up to date techniques in modern orthopaedics and sports medicine.
Please see our Animations link below to view the techniques we use for your shoulder surgery where this is required.

Biologics & Regenerative Medicine
In orthopaedic sports medicine, the premise of regenerative medicine—or, the more accurate term, restorative medicine–is to accelerate healing and to decrease scar formation, adhesions, pain, and inflammation at the site of injury or surgical repair. (We can’t yet regenerate damaged tissues and joints or make them normal again. Rather, we’re creating a more favourable healing environment.)
Our Regenerative Medicine Clinic is based at UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic in Dublin. Professor Moran has extensive experience in the field of Orthobiologics and Regenerative Medicine, providing opinions for both patients and colleagues in regenerative medicine, biologics and cell therapy. At Regenerative Medicine Dublin, our team are committed to providing patients access to a promising collection of biological treatments in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.
Biologic treatments include cell therapy, blood components and other natural substances that harness the body’s own power to promote healing and decrease inflammation.
Where suitable, we will discuss the role of such cell and biological injections for your shoulder pain or injury with you.

Lipogems
Lipogems is an EU and US FDA-Cleared cellular treatment process that gently processes a patient’s own fat tissue and can be delivered to multiple areas of the body to promote healing

PRP
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an emerging treatment in a new health sector known as Orthobiologics. By stimulating the body’s own natural healing, PRP aides in the reparative process of injured or damaged tissue and is also anti-inflammatory

Biologic Injections
In addition to using fat cells and platelets, we also offer options in the use of bone marrow cells, hyaluronic acid lubricating gels, and other injections for painful conditions.

Cartilage Repair
Professor Cathal Moran and his surgical team at Sports Surgery Clinic are renowned specialists in the provision of Cartilage Repair and Reconstruction Surgery. They are leaders in developing innovative biologic methods for addressing early cartilage damage in the knee, shoulder, and elsewhere.
